Canadian cuisine is hardly original. In gastronomic terms, Canadians do not shine with imagination. When asked what to try in Canada, french fries, burgers and donuts come to mind. However, something unique in this regard, the founders of hockey still have. Each province has its own traditional dish. Quebec is famous for ice cream, which consists of snow and maple syrup, and rural residents collect and harvest young fern shoots. But let’s talk about everything in order: consider the basic culinary preferences of Canadians.

What to try in Canada from food
Putin The name of the dish is in no way connected with the personality of the Russian president, and the emphasis is on the last syllable. This national delicacy is served in any fast food country. The side dish consists of french fries, which are poured with meat sauce and sprinkled with “creaky” cheese. Putin appeared in Quebec in the 50s and has since spread to other provinces. Its regular use threatens with extra pounds of weight, but this nuance does not stop lovers from crunching straws of fried potatoes.

Turrier. Meat pie, whose homeland is also considered Quebec. It consists of different types of minced meat and a thin layer of dough. Today, the filling is made from lamb, pork and beef, and a few decades earlier, deer, wild boar and bison meat were added there. They don’t save on the filling, and this makes the cake incredibly satisfying. Curiously, the flour on the turret goes in equal proportions with the butter. The dish is baked for more than six hours at a temperature of 120 ° C. If you don’t know what to try in Canada in order, for example, to keep warm in the winter season, order a meat pie.

Beaver Tails. Dessert literally translates as “beaver tails.” It is a puff pastry, greased with a sweet filling of chocolate paste, apple jam with cinnamon and maple syrup. On the streets of Ottawa, such desserts are sold at every step – do not deny yourself the pleasure of enjoying them.

Nanaimo. Three-layer dessert in the form of small sticks. Without exaggeration, it is considered the favorite “cookie” of Canadians. Consists of a layer of waffle chips, custard and melted chocolate. The cooking process is relatively simple, but requires mandatory storage in the refrigerator – the more cool, the more tasty.

Canadian bacon. A welcome guest on any table. It is prepared from pork fillet purified from fat, which is dried, previously rubbed with salt, pepper and sprinkled with corn flour. Using cornmeal and curing instead of smoking are the hallmarks of true Canadian bacon. It just so happened that the first settlers sprinkled pork with ground peas to extend its shelf life. Later, peas were replaced with cornmeal. Bacon is the backbone of a Canadian sandwich. For taste, lettuce, onion rings and slices of pickled cucumber are placed inside the bun.

Maple syrup. It’s hard to imagine a country of maple leaves without maple syrup. Here it is a universal product that not only serves as a substitute for sugar or honey, but is also used for baking meat, cooking omelettes, beans, sauces and vegetable dishes. With the addition of maple syrup, beer and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are produced. The product is made from maple juice and is used in the preparation of almost any food. Do not forget to buy some jars of this sweet product home!

Montreal smoked meat. Beef brisket is salted and aged in herbs for at least a week. After the meat is saturated with aromas and flavors, it is hot smoked. The brisket is brought to readiness with the help of steam. Every housewife knows that beef is very easy to spoil. With Montreal meat, this never happens. If you want to taste impeccably cooked beef at least once in your life, be sure to order this dish.

Bagels. Unlike Russian, Canadian bagels are served with a variety of fillings. They are baked on wood, then sprinkled with poppy seeds or sesame seeds and thrown into honey syrup. Then the bagels are cut in half and stuffed with various products: from salty to sweet. It can be salmon, egg, cheese, bacon, vegetables, cream, chocolate paste or whipped cream. A hearty meal is served for breakfast, complements the lunch: they are snacking by students and office workers who have run out for a break.

Popular canadian drinks
Cocktail Caesar. Successful variation on the theme of “Bloody Mary.” In Caesar, instead of the usual tomato juice, reconstituted with the addition of oyster sauce and spices is used. And the rest of the recipes are identical – vodka, salt, pepper, a slice of lemon or lime.
